Supporting DGRS Members to Chase Their Running Goals

The Don Greig Racing Stables Racing & Development Grant exists to support club members pursuing meaningful running goals at events outside of Christchurch, both within New Zealand and internationally.

The purpose of this grant is to encourage and support runners across all stages of the sport — not only those competing at an elite level, but also members who consistently train, contribute positively to the club culture, strive for personal bests, and represent DGRS with commitment and integrity. We recognise that success in running looks different for everyone. For some, it may be competing at a national level; for others, it may be completing a first marathon, returning from injury, achieving a personal best, or continuing to compete strongly within masters categories. This grant aims to celebrate dedication, progression, and passion for the sport.

Funding may be used to assist with costs associated with attending an approved event outside of Christchurch, including:

  • Race entry fees
  • Flights or transport
  • Accommodation
  • Event-related expenses

What the Committee Will Consider Applications will be assessed holistically. Selection is not solely based on performance times or placings. The committee may consider:

  1. Commitment and consistency in training
  2. Evidence of progression toward goal
  3. Club involvement and contribution to club culture
  4. Personal goals and motivation
  5. Representation of DGRS values
  6. The significance of the event to the applicant
  7. Financial need and expected event costs
  8. Likelihood of the grant positively contributing to the applicant’s running journey

Grant amounts will be awarded according to a tiered structure that considers the estimated cost of the event and the strength of the application. The tiered structure provides guidance rather than strict rules. The Committee retains discretion to adjust the awarded amount within the approved tiers based on the applicant’s evidence, financial need, event significance, and available club funds. The DGRS Committee will provide an annual summary of Racing & Development Grant allocations at the AGM or via a written update to members. This summary will outline the number of applications received, the number of grants awarded, and the total funds distributed, while respecting applicant privacy.
